Heading North: Departure for Upernavik

May 7th marks the true beginning of the North Greenland Windsled Expedition 2026.

After months of preparation, logistical coordination, technical testing, and scientific planning, the team has now begun the journey north: Copenhagen, Nuuk, Ilulissat, and finally Upernavik, at the gateway to the High Arctic of Greenland.

With every step of the journey, the inhabited world seems to fade a little further away. Infrastructure gradually disappears, giving way to the vast mineral and frozen landscapes of Greenland.

The international team is now complete. Over the coming days, the final preparations will be carried out in Upernavik before departure onto the Ice Sheet. Scientific equipment, polar gear, and navigation systems will undergo one last round of checks before heading onto the Greenland Ice Cap.

The departure is no longer a distant prospect.. The expedition begins now. ❄️
